"Work is more than a way of making a living: it is a vocation, a participation in God’s creative activity. The creation of wealth by productive action is blessed by God and praised by the Church, as both a right and a duty. When properly organised and respectful of the humanity of the workers, it is also a source of fulfilment and satisfaction.” (Common Good and the Catholic Church’s Social Teaching 1996)
We believe it is part of our duty as a school to equip our students with the skills that will enable them to compete in the challenging work environment of the 21st century and the enterprising spirit they will need to succeed whatever career path they choose.
It is for this reason that – throughout the curriculum and in every stage of their schooling – we seek to teach our students key business skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership and numeracy, and instil in them a spirit of enterprise, creativity and initiative.
We were designated a Business and Enterprise College in September 2002, becoming one of the first 18 schools in the country to gain that status. Since then, we have established a growing regional and national reputation for innovation and success. We were re-designated in 2006 and again in 2009.
It is difficult to do justice to all the projects, initiatives and improvements that flow from our specialist status, but this section summarises these benefits. Further details can be found in our ‘Giant Steps’ newsletter, which is regularly published in this section.
